MOLLY HATCHET
Rock n Roll Fire CD Bootleg & The Creeper
Collection DVD Bootleg

The bootleg trade being forbidden in France, I only talk about these two live recordings I've found on the Internet network.
First 'Rock n' Roll Fire', a good recording of an US 1984 tour show, on the 'Deed is Done' tour. So we are not surprised to hear song such as 'Satisfied man', 'Straight shooter', 'She does, she does', 'Heartbreak radio', with the classical Hatchet hits ('Bounty hunter', 'Gator country', 'Flirtin' with disaster', etc…) and I must admit that honestly that the way these new songs are played live makes me enjoy a little bit more the album 'The Deed is Done'. In this show, we also can listen to a never recorded song called 'Rock n' Roll Fire', a great strong rock n' roll. With the famous 'Beatin' the Odds', 'Fall of the Peacemakers', we must admit that this period was the best of this band.
The 'Creeper Collection' dvd is a good resume of Molly Hatchet first steps, especially with the show at the 'DKRC' in 1978, TV shows 'American Bandstand' and 'Solid Gold' in 1980 with its famous 'Beatin' the Odds' and 'The Rambler' versions, and obviously the famous 1983 show 'Rock n' Roll Tonight'. Images and the sound are good and that recall us of the good old time, so it is always a great pleasure !

Hello, here we get it at the end, the famous Molly DVD, which was announced for at least two years. We really were impatient to get it, and that probably why, last year, Phil McCormack and Bobby Ingram band have recorded, at the 'Harley Davidson Days' in Hamburg, this famous show. Fans will sure be happy to have now at the end this DVD. For us, at Road to Jacksonville, even if music is the most important (and here it is a good quality one !), we have to ask some special questions about this DVD, questions that are not about the recording quality. First, we have been surprised to see that on the official Molly Hatchet website this DVD has not been announced. Then, the musicians and the song played are not written at the end of the DVD. We are wondering too why is there Jack Rutter on the second guitar, when we watch Bobby play quite all the choruses. Maybe it should have been better to wait for another real second guitar player in the band before recording a DVD. So…. However, this recorded show is a real pleasure and that is the most important. This DVD offers us the great Molly Hatchet historic songs, like Whiskey Man, Bounty Hunter, Gator Country, Beatin' the Odds, Fall of the Peacemakers, etc… and, a little bit surprising (especially for Jack Rutter) new songs of the last album, issued a long time after the show, 'Moonlight Dancin' on the Bayou', 'Son of the South', 'The Rainbow Bridge', and 'Gone in 60 Seconds'. We get, as a bonus track, 'Bobby in Talk', a nice interview of Bobby Ingram who talks about the original Molly Hatchet members, and of his friends from Jacksonville, Johnny Van Zant, Billy Van Zant, Donnie Van Zant, etc…
The Picture Gallery shows a nice collection of recent pictures. And the discography can be surprising, because it begins with 'Lightning strikes back' (!), and the Behind the Scene part offers us the Harley Davidson party. The show is a 'classic' today's Molly Hatchet concert, with high energy of the good friends Phil McCormack and Bobby Ingram (no it is not the Bobby Ingram band!!). I hope Bobby won't be disappointed if I say that many fans and guitar players could have noticed many studio outtakes… but however, Mr Eddie Van Halen some years ago told that all the live albums have always been 'repaired' in the studio, so ?
I'm gonna listen to 'Rainbow Bridge' again, a great song Bobby wrote for his beloved wife Stephanie that died last year. The South has risen again !!

MOLLY HATCHET
Warriors Of The Rainbow Bridge
( SPV 085-70392 CD )

Titles :

1 Son Of The South - 2 Moonlight Dancin' On The Bayou - 3 I' m Ready For You - 4 Roadhouse Boogie - 5 Time Keeps Slipping Away
6 Get In The Game - 7 Flames Are Burning - 8 Hell Has No Fury - 9 Gone In Sixty Seconds - 10 Behind The Bedroom Door
11 No Stranger In The Darkness - 12 Rainbow Bridge

I was waiting for a long time to get this new cd, as I knew it was going to be released, and I was even more happy when RTJ got it as a first issue, but I must admit that I've soon be deceived when I listened to this "Warriors of the Rainbow Bridge". Maybe I was waiting for more, for a higher-level cd. I know that this record is real Molly Hatchet stuff, with his today's new sound, but I have now the feeling that this cd has not received the right musical creativity it should have. First song "Son of the South", that the band plays live for some times now, should have been in a better southern spirit ! It is heavy, but not southern enough for me. And it is quite the same for the others songs. It seems that Bobby has chosen to use great heavy riffs of the 80's ; songs like "Moonlight Dancing on the Bayou", "Get in the Game" or "Gone in Sixty Seconds" look quite the same. We hoped that "Roadhouse Boogie" could have been a nice boogie song, but once more, I'm not satisfied with that title. "Behind the Bedroom Door" intro is looking like Joe Cocker's "With a Little Help from my Friends", but it soon becomes a classical Rock n' Roll. The good Molly Hatchet is back on "Time Keeps Slipping Away" and "Rainbow Bridge", but we are far from "Devils canyon", "One Last Ride" or "The Journey"… I'm wondering on how Dave Hlubek will play such songs, but maybe on stage Molly Hatchet will be faithful to all those legendary old songs.

When we heard Bobby Ingram wanted to re-record the classics songs by the actual lineup, many fans were certainly sceptical about the interest of this album. After listening to it, I still have this interrogation : is it a necessary album. Well, even if some ones would have preferred to get new songs, it's still a pleasure to have a new Hatchet in the record stores. Bobby Ingram had his reasons to make this album but don't forget he kind of give a rebirth to this band, so he certainly deserves some recognition. So what can I say about this album ? The fans have to understand Bobby is the boss in this band, as were Danny Joe Brown and Duane Rolland many years ago. The classics Hatchet songs are revisited, sometimes with a less heavy approach, but the original spirit is still there, ans to me that's the most important thing.

It's been a long time since we heard about this new live album, but they made it. Yes, the actual Molly Hatchet lineup (the one with Bobby Ingram and Phil Mc Cormack) just released a double live album recorded while they were touring in Germany. This album was certainly necessary to satisfy the fans and to show them this band still carries the torch. What a great tribute to rock'n roll, 22 songs played with so much energy and intensity. Hello Germany, they're coming from Jacksonville and tonight they're gonna kick your ass !!! Here is Molly Hatchet !!! And the show starts with "Whiskey Man", wouahh !!! 20 years later and it still works !! All the great standards of course are played here ("Gator country", "Beatin' the Odds", "Dreams", "Bounty Hunter", "Flirtin' with disaster", among others), and also some songs from their recent releases ("Heart in the USA", "Miss Saturday Night", "White lightning", "The journey", "Devil's Canyon"...). I know, in the southern brotherhood of fans, there are always people wondering if this band has legitimacy, the songs are played with a heavier sound than in the 70's or the 80's, everyone has his answers, which is normal (don't forget people have about the same questions when talking about Lynyrd Skynyrd), but I still think this band, this lineup, still carries the torch and the legend created back in '78 by others people. So thanks to you, Danny Joe, Dave, Duane, Bruce, Steve, Banner, Riff...without you there would have been no Hatchet and thanks to you Bobby, Phil and the others because without you, there would be no more Hatchet. Keep on fronting this band, so the legend can still live for many years for the great joy of the fans we are. The South gonna rise again. Keep on rockin'.

It's been a long time since we heard about this new live album, but they made it. Yes, the actual Molly Hatchet lineup (the

Great news when we heard BMG was about to release old recordings from Molly Hatchet, with this album from the "Encore collection". It has been recorded twnety one years ago, 1981, in Hollywood, and this new album should enjoy all the fans as we'll have the second lineup, with Jimmy Farrar on lead vocals. Something we're not use to, as for everyone the Molly Hatchet lead singer is and will remain Danny Joe Brown. But don't forget, Molly Hatchet ketp working during the early 80's with Jimmy Farrar, so this man deserves some respect. After the album "Agora Ballroom" in Atlanta from 79 relesaed two years ago, and while waiting for a new live album coming soon, it's a good thing to get an ear on this new album, you'll obviously get all the classics, "Bounty hunter", "Dreams I'll never see", "Flirtin with disaster", "Gator country", among others, but there are also some real interesting tunes such as "Lady luck" or "Dead giveaway". All the songs from this album are played with passion, energy, and a real big heart, the sound is pretty good, so why dont'y you get it ?
